Our Event...
The Port Shorts Film Festival will be held on November
2nd 2007 at the "Clink Theatre", Mowbray St Port
Douglas.
Bar facilities and our resident DJ Gerhard, entertains
the crowd in the “under the stars” tropical amphitheatre,
whilst inside our MC Jay C introduces the films & vibes the crowd
in the comfortable 120 seater theaterette. It's the perfect venue
for an intimate event and the feature films will be shown in multiple
screenings throughout the night on the “big screen”. This
balance of entertainment, combined with the audience involvement
in the judging process, ensures not just another film show, but
a whole night of entertainment!
Multiple screenings of the one hour show
run from 6pm, with the ever popular "midnight screening"
being the finale of the night.
Our Past....
Port Shorts provides an opportunity for all film makers, from
the first time amateur to the seasoned professional, to “strut
their stuff”.
With over 100 people involved in making films in last year's event,
Port Shorts involves not just a town, but the whole Far North Queensland
and beyond.
A RADF grant (Regional Arts Development Fund) was integral in helping
us stage the Port Shorts film festival. With 13 films presented
each year and a sold out programme we have attracted wide media
exposure in both print and radio. This year, things are only
getting bigger with an expected audience of nearly 600! We are hoping
this will path the way for an annual Film Festival weekend over
the next few years.
The 3 minute genre was originally chosen, as 3 minutes is the length
of a roll of super8 film. We kept this timeframe when expanding
Port Shorts, as we thought it's a great discipline to be able to
tell a story in a short amount of time. Combined with the "Port
Shorts item" (which this year is WAVE) it sets the scene for
peoples creativity to really shine through.

Jonze... these guys have the 3 minute formula down pat! They
have worked for some of the worlds greatest musical artists like
Bjork, Madonna and the Aphex Twins. They are now working on features
and are some of the most innovative and exciting film makers in
the world.
Port Shorts encompasses Super 8mm, Animation, Digital... whatever
goes!! This combination of old and new provides choice and visual
excitement. Some love old school, others want to dapple with technologies
latest. This event offers it all.
After 4 successful events we are pleased to have some
exciting developments and are accepting entries from around the
globe. We also have some major sponsors in the pipeline .... Stay
